Make Yourself Small and Be Ready to Hear From God

“Make yourself small” was the title of an old sermon we heard from Elisabeth Elliott. Meekness, which is quiet, understated strength is the principal characteristic God loves to see in us. Much of Christianity these days tells us how to love ourselves and how to use God as a means to happiness and fulfillment. But the message our savior demonstrated was to die to self and to live for God. We must decrease and He must increase. The gospel is not a means by which we accumulate earthly treasure, but is rather the acceptance of the greatest gift ever given to mankind, and the subsequent giving ourselves to the gift giver as humble bond servants. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
